Product Focus – VHX-9330 4K 60Hz Encoder & Decoder

Background

Audio Visual over IP (AVoIP) is fast becoming the industry standard for many applications in Audio Visual (AV) installations, superseding the traditional methods of signal interconnecting. A scalable and less expensive alternative to larger, fixed matrices, AVoIP is ideal for small and medium sized AV solutions. Providing a modular, flexible solution for audio and visual distribution, the VHX-9330 combines encoding and decoding functions with smooth 4K 60Hz visuals. Our encoder (VHX-EN9330), decoder (VHX-DC9330) and optional controller (VHX-7000-J) units can be used in a multitude of different situations to provide support for Video Wall Processing, Video Distribution and KVM Extension solutions

The full datasheets for the VHX-9330 units and VHX-7000-J can be found here. For insight into how this product can be used, please find some application examples below:

VHX-9330 in Video Wall Processing

Video Walls are a key component of many AV setups that take in large amounts of data, such as Command and Control Centres. They are often needed in large installations to improve communication and present information in an easily compartmentalised fashion. Video Walls allow large amounts of visual content and data from a variety of inputs to be centralised, enhancing the situational awareness of operators.

Smart-e’s VHX-9330 solution can be configured to form a video wall of up to 9×9 screens. Once configured, the units intelligently display the correct portion of the video for their location within the Video Wall. Variable bezel widths of the display can be accommodated when setting up the system providing a seamless feel to the montage of monitors.

Configuring the Video Wall is very simple using our additional VHX-7000-J controller unit. This unit is recommended when installing multiple encoders and decoders as it presents an overview of the entire system through a single web browser. This web browser allows different multiple display configurations to be created, saved and quickly re-instated when required.

VHX-9330 in KVM Extension

Many Command and Control centres will also require KVM extension to centralise the main computer units away from the users. The VHX-9330 allows high quality 4K resolution images at 60Hz to be transmitted up to 100m on a single Cat 6 cable run.  Greater distances can be achieved if the signal is repeated through network switches or via the use of optical fibre. Very low latency of less than a frame means minimal signal delay, providing excellent mouse control and responsiveness.

The VHX-EN9330 encoder connects with the host computer and provides two local USB 2.0 port for local access. By contrast, the VHX-DC9330 decoder has 4 ports: two USB 1.1 and a pair of USB 2.0 connections.

VHX-9330 in Video Distribution Solutions

Video distribution systems are an ideal use for the VHX-9330 due to its scalability, flexibility and unlimited distance of transmission. Transmitting and displaying video and audio signals are required in many common scenarios from airports, shopping malls and sports stadiums to custom designed residential AV solutions.

Residential AV solutions are particularly suited for the VHX-9330 given its excellent image quality.  The VHX-9330 is able to produce high grade professional level image and video presentations by distributing 4K resolution video at 60Hz refresh rate.  HD audio is supported including various flavours of multichannel Dolby.

Another key feature of the VHX-9330 is the ability to transmit a high quality return audio channel – ARC (Audio Return Channel) back from the display through the VHX-DC9330 decoder to the VHX-EN9330 encoder. This enables any multi-channel audio present at your smart TV (from a video app like Apple TV, Disney + or Prime) to be sent back through an AV receiver into a multi-speaker system.
